I'm far from the only one who's right on this, but many people are blinded by their partisan and/or ideological bias. They get an explanation, it fits with their political ideas, so it becomes "truth" without every having to examine what really occurred, let alone having to construct a solid argument backing their claims, and anyone who says otherwise is attacked.
