if china, i am not sure, as standard of living more than quintuppled in my near term memory, bettering usa by 4x. Oh? Not hard when they have no where to go but up and you have plenty of markets for your products due to the even greater demand from more developed nations. And I'm happy for the Chinese people. I want them to enjoy a middle class lifestyle they deserve. But it's one thing to rely upon currency based mercantilism and developing an internally driven economy. Such internal growth requires sound banking laws, strong legal enforcement, and financial transparency. Futhermore, when you develop an internal economy, people are going to want to include political choice as part of it, especially when the consequences of ongoing corruption become apparent (and don't tell me there isn't major corruption in China). shut off? why would one want to continue selling to folks who cannot afford socks and bras? goodbye when true. Wow.. so that's all Chinese workers make; just socks and shoes? Crap.. we can get those anywhere.. Vietnam, Mexico, El Salvador.. etc.. It's the electronics and other non-essentials that are the basis for the Chinese industrial expansion, including auto parts. Well, guess what.. Americans are buying cars and they probably will be hanging on to the ones they currently own for a lot longer than they anticipated. Chinese people aren't slackening their demand for new cars as well. You're a predator, and the people caught up in the carnage of your desired deflationary spiral don't matter to you. I hope you can hire private security and a good strongbox for your gold hoards. Because starving, unemployed, and angry people can be quite predatory as well. Hawk
