And pragmatism. We hired guys to run government that hate government. You wouldn't hire guys to run your company that hate your company.

Few bureaucrats, or even politicians really hated government. Wanting to shrink government isn't the same as hating government and most of the people hired didn't even want to shrink government.

Also companies are subject to market discipline, governments are not. If you only hire people who love government you get endless expansion without limit except the limit on the wealth that can be extracted from the economy.

For that matter even with businesses, sometimes the right hire is the guy who will reduce the size of the company, getting rid of unprofitable lines of business, reducing excess staff, cutting costs etc.

Clinton did a to more to stem the growth of government than Reagan.

Government spending grew less under Clinton, but then Clinton benefited from the peace dividend that Reagan helped create, also Reagan didn't have Gingrich as speaker of the house. The real spending restraint happened after the Republicans took over congress (to bad the Republicans in congress got away from that idea later on), and would have gone further had not Clinton prevented it from doing so.

Obama wants a post partisan environment

Only if "post partisan" is defined as accepting his agenda.

RW, > Ideology is more rigid than party; lets have a period of pragmatism...

I don't see anything "pragmatic" about bailing out failed corporations.

But yeah, we should get out of Iraq as soon as we can.
