I do, too. They should not bailed out ONE NICKEL unless they unions agree to be busted up.

Great idea...cause, you know, the unions decide what GM builds. Today there is maybe a model GM or Ford that shows the slightest glimmer of Japanese or European appeal...the rest are better quality, but still re-cycled detroit dull iron. They don't know how to create excitement in the low and mid range models. The small cars they build are no less fuel efficient than their japanese counterparts...but they are BORING and it's not their focus. The battle ship business is their focus. Look at at nissan altima, maxima, or toyota camry or avalon...they are snazzy cars and they perform. World class engines, power and fuel economy, and they look great. Have you looked at Hyunday cars lately? That's what they need to do and it's a lot harder than busting up the unions, because it requires breaking the ingrained culture of their management and gutting their design houses.

worry about how detroit makes effective use of any incentives, loans or otherwise.

The unions are the least of their problem. Its their cars....they suck. No one wants them. Most of their sales are fleet sales to car rental companies. If unions were the problem but they had decent cars, you would at least see sales increasing. The real problem is their funky, GOP management teams.....they keep thinking they're still in the 1950s.
