Ted, > Someone is flush and he or she picks up the tab? It happens all the time.

The key is that the person picking up the tab volunteers to do it. I just did that last night with an old college friend.

Those who have the tab picked up for them almost always feels a sense of gratitude or a moral obligation to pay that person back. It's why many friends argue over, "I got this." "No I got this!" "You got it last time, let me!"

Try finding that sentiment when it comes to government handouts. People take and just ask for more.
