Actually, I find this preferable. It lets the market sort out individual asset prices, and gets the public a stake in the banks we help out.

I know the BKX is already scraping the bottom again, but doesn't this pretty much remove the props from underneath all the smaller banks? My impression is that they are less likely to be helped by this kind of bailout, and that is what the BKX is saying.
