Health care is not a natural consequential cost of doing their business Compensation to employees is. One of the reasons why the compensation to employees so often includes paying for health insurance is that the federal government gives tax advantages to providing compensation as health insurance. And their overseas competition, recognize this please, are not burdened with the same cost. Notice that much of the "overseas competition", is producing cars here, and typically providing insurance to the employees as they do so.
