What is vague about the term civil rights and equal protection under the law?

The idea of civil rights is inherently vague. Different people have different opinions as to exactly what it means, its not a rigidly defined concept. Equality under the law is a little less vague, but still something that reasonably can be used to argue for very different positions in different political controversies.

I believe government should recognize contracts including one called civil union. People make prenups all the time...so what?

So nothing. Where do you see me saying the government shouldn't recognize prenups, or even civil unions?

I haven't seen a right wing group go after divorce....why is that?

Because you haven't looked hard enough.

Very few conservatives would want to outlaw divorce or make it almost impossible to get, but "very few", is not "none at all". Many others would just argue that its often a bad thing, and that people should try to avoid it if reasonably possible.
