NEW YORK -- Analysts and traders expect government data scheduled for release Friday to show a larger-than-average build in U.S. natural gas inventories, with mild weather in the major gas-consuming regions curbing heating demand.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration is expected to report that 48 billion cubic feet of gas were added to storage during week ended Nov. 7, according to the average prediction of 14 analysts and traders in a Dow Jones Newswires survey.

The EIA is scheduled to release its storage data Friday at 10:35 a.m. EST, a day later than usual as a result of the Veterans Day holiday.

The survey's median was 48 bcf, with a high of a 60 bcf injection and a low of a 40 bcf injection. The estimated storage build surpasses the 23 bcf five-year average injection and last year's 4 bcf build.

Moderate temperatures in the U.S. Northeast and Midwest helped reduce gas demand, said Kent Bayazitoglu, an analyst with Gelber & Associates in Houston, in a note to clients.

"Last week's mild, above-average weather will produce a larger injection than last week and will produce the last injection of the year," Bayazitoglu said. "A strong injection near 50 Bcf or greater will help the market push the market down to near $6."

Gas in U.S. storage as of Oct. 31 totaled 3.405 trillion cubic feet, 3.7% below last year's level and 2.3% above the five-year average.

The EIA's weekly storage page is tonto.eia.doe.gov.

GULF PRODUCTION MONITOR: November 13, 2008 Gulf Production is flat at around 9.6 Bcf/d this morning. HIOS began scheduling gas and posted a 150 MMcf/d delivery to Stingray. Stingray also posted around 150 MMcf today. Average combined flows on both systems are around 600 MMcf/d. HIOS is still without compression at WC509 until the 15th which may be one reason volumes are not higher today. Independence Hub scheduled volumes are down 50 MMcf today which has offset some of the gains made at HIOS.
