I don't see any major disconnects, as a properly cautious outlook for any short termers or traders. I certainly thought and hoped the dram overcapacity would have lessened, it hasn't. These boys need to form a cartel! Sure, the taiwanese, japanese, and koreans should get along just fine. And throw in a few white supremists from Idaho for good measure.
However, the upside possibilities for reasonable business and then another rocket up exist as well. .25 and below upgrades and to a lesser degree 300mm will obsolete the installed base, but what portion and how quickly.

Mohan, Good note. We have to keep in mind that all those equipment "orders" are from the part of the world that is currently blowing up. Maybe these firms will not pull in their horns just because they don't see profits for a couple of years. But that is not the way to bet. I still believe the bear is Catholic and that the Pope poops in the woods. -g- MB

Mohan,

<<Initial signs of trouble were already reported by KLIC and KLAC.>>

KLIC and KLAC are very different animals. KLAC looks very healthy to me with obscene market share in fast growth yield improvement tools.
They just blew away earnings estimates (12% above consensus). 40% CAGR year to year this quarter. Analysts are upgrading right and left.

What initial signs of trouble are you talking about at KLAC?
