Sounds like a front man - he gets reputation for being rich, his resturant does a large cash business, meanwhile, the real money is somewhere else. Sounds like he intentionally attracts attention.

I would not want to be close to him or ask too many questions.

Isn't Brazil outside the mainstream for people from India ?
