Re: "Why?" Now... I'm not a 'fan' in any sense of salacious gossip... but it certainly plays a role in politics that cannot be denied. For example: the same sort of salacious gossip about politicians and alleged affairs (& from EXACTLY the same low-rent gossip-mongering media outlet) played an undeniable role earlier this year in the political process - likely ending any further role of John Edwards in national politics. And, I don't recall hearing many denunciations of that 'gotcha' journalism AROUND THESE PARTS back then! Exactly the opposite... many posters here were reveling in the yellow journalism. And, in truth, the public has always had a bit of an appetite for politicians caught 'in extremis' (possibly it's an innate human characteristic to welcome 'comeuppance' for those 'on high', but I don't really know why such stuff is always popular). Silly to deny that it doesn't play a part in the national dialog around the 'water fountain', or have a MEASURABLE EFFECT in politics. (I'm curious though, jl... if I were to go back just a few short months in your postings here, I wonder if I would see you taking the same 'high-minded tone' back when the EXACT SAME outfit published the Edwards rumors?) Just wondering....
