OT - to entire thread Today is a day off for Junior. As most of you know we live in Madison which leans pretty hard left. I'm trying to teach him some basics about politics without slanting his view because he wont even be 10 until December. Anyhow we've been talking about elections and I've used this site to show him cycles all the way back to Washington - its a great site: 270towin.com I have a collection of political buttons it's not huge but it has every election back to Dewey. For whatever reason the buttons really resonate and help solidify his knowledge of who and when. SO - if you have buttons just laying around that don't have value (either personal or antique) that you don't mind parting with I'd pay for you to ship them to me because I'm going to use them in his class. He was the only kid who voted for McCain and yet I didn't disclose who I voted for nor did I try to influence him. What really bothers me is that if I, as the parent, don't discuss who I vote for or try to influence his beliefs why do the teachers? I think its bad policy. We don't talk theology in public schools because not everyone is of the same belief structure. Well, I'm of the opinion that we should take the same approach with ideology. I think we can teach politics without slanting (and I believe its brainwashing when kids are this young) in one direction or the other. My other belief is that discussing the basics about religion is one hell of a lot more virtuous that talking politics. I had a meeting with his teacher last night (parent teacher conference) and I discussed my point of view. I was VERY humble and gentle in the delivery of my thoughts. This was the 2nd time this year I expressed concern about the fact that political opinions were disclosed. I also expressed my disappointment (in a nice way) that she decided to tell my son who she voted for and why she thought her vote was the correct way for everyone to vote.to vote. Anyhow - back to teaching Jr. about stocks and economy
