The following links should be of interest to the thread. In the second, you'll see this wonderful quote, " One analyst said last week that the Microsoft cash could fund TCI system upgrades. 'They [TCI] don't have the money,' the analyst said. 'Their systems suck and virtually every other cable company is rebuilding their systems. They are going to have to spend some real money to upgrade.' "

TCI represents a big chunk of those 55 million homes ATHM "has access to."

I monitor the sites, as does probably every other serious follower of the cable industry. They are new posts today. Might explain some of ATHM's stellar performance today.

I received the following response from TCI:

On behalf of @Home by TCI.NET I am responding to your e-mail dated
10/21/97. Unfortunately, @Home by TCI.NET is not currently available in
your area. Due to competitive considerations, TCI.NET will not publicly
release our deployment schedules at this time. We are committed to
notifying all interested parties as soon as possible, once @Home is
available in a given area. Before that can be accomplished, the cable
plant that serves your neighborhood must first be upgraded for two way
communication and these upgrades must pass very strict quality control
standards. In order to insure YOUR satisfaction with the service, @Home
by TCI.NET will not certify the plant until any, and all, problems are
resolved in compliance with these standards. Once the plant is
certified, we will begin beta testing of the software, and service, in
your neighborhood and schedule the full release when we are completely
satisfied with the results of the beta test.

TCI.NET recognizes that many TCI customers are anxious to experience
@Home and continues to evaluate new launch markets. As soon as these
plans are final, a formal announcement will be made.

Your interest has been noted and you will be contacted as soon as we can serve your neighborhood. Thank you for your patience in this matter! It will be rewarded with the greatest on-line access you have ever experienced!
Again, thank you for your interest.
