He came from the most expensive prep school in HA, not some poor inner city or country school. He has written of benefitting from affirmative action in getting into Harvard and becoming president of Harvard's Law Review. He was elected to the state senate after he got all the other candidates thrown off the ballot by challenging their petitions. He got into the Senate after the incumbent resigned over a scandal just before the election. The legislation most often mentioned as his greatest accomplishment was a bill to throw out non-video taped confessions in murder trials. Most of his supporters either don't know what his positions on issues are or think he doesn't mean them.
