Obama and his supporters will say there is no danger of a repeat of Bush -- who believed he could carry out his agenda and build his political base at the same time, but couldn't. Building a political base requires modifying one's agenda.

Bush couldn't because in my opinion the other side did not want him to do either and made sure that he couldn't.

Bush did not receive the graceful transition that he promises to bestow on Obama and has declared that he wants Obama to succeed. I have no doubt this is true, and I feel it so in my own heart.

But I know that if dirt can be done by you, as it was done by Bush's opposition, then it can be done unto you.

Although I sincerely hope that Obama will succeed in uniting the country, I doubt that even he is deft enough to balance all the forces at play well enough for that to happen.
