They either lose their homes and become renters or homeless burdens on society or they stay in the govt homes and become renters with the govt and taxpayers holding title.At least the latter keeps the homes occupied and removes that threat of dragging down the neighborhood.

I'm aware of renters traditionally not maintaining the same level of upkeep, but in these cases they should be contractually obligated to do so. Long term leases maybe with some transferability option after 5 or 10 years. But no way should bailed out deadbeats get anything other than a place to stay. Any equity recovered, probably through inflation, should be returned to the taxpayers.

We have become a society that rewards failure and punishes success. Both political parties are 100% responsible. Republicans reward bankers for being failures. Democrats reward homeowners for being failures.

Makes one wonder what the end result will be.
