There's also the risk that foreclosure or bankruptcy will hurt the chances of getting a job since they all do credit checks. Not sure how a deed in lieu of a foreclosure would show up on an employment verification.

Sorry to hear that. So far my friends and family have been unaffected, outside of 401Ks. They were warned repeatedly. I've also told a couple of them (two years ago) that I would likely give them a call one day in a few years, and tell them it was time to begin aggressively buying oil. That it would be the last opportunity of their lifetimes. I think I'm going to call them and give them a heads up on that one.

Just did a frustrating exercise. I really, really, REALLY wanted to take some profits - somewhere, anywhere - in my portfolio. But I only found a handful of shorts that were anywhere near their long-term potential support. Went ahead and covered GS and MHK - figure I might be able to get a low risk re-entry over the holiday season.

Risk/reward remains too attractive to cover the rest. So, I'll just hang out and try to stay fully hedged. Given the choice of covering SCHW or AMZN, or staying short and hedging with SPY, I'll take the latter. Stocks like that have a lot of giving left to do.

And THAT is why I take positions in individual stocks, as opposed to just the indexes.

Waiting here. Wife is caught up in Glaxo's reorg, will know in a couple of weeks whether she holds on. Big pharma is stil in big heap'um trouble from their dumazz "share of voice" marketing scheme of the last 15 years.

(As an aside, wife went out with some friends for drinks last night to a restaurant at a generally well attended upscale mall in Edina, MN last night. She said it was DEAD, literally about 50 people in it. She walked into J Crew and there were no banners or signs, but the manager walked right up to her and told her that everything in the store was 30% off that night. Told her they had 12 people in the store all day. Unbelievable.)
