Interesting Press Release from New Moon software about a hybrid thin client solution. Appears that their liftoff software provides multi-user NT capability in a thin client environment where thin client is not an NC but a PC that shares the workload with the server.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ -_ New Moon(
TM) Software, the
fast-growing thin-client Windows software manufacturer, today announced that
it has hired five senior software engineers to staff its new R&D office in
Reston, Virginia. The engineers, all most recently with Visix Software
Corporation, bring a wealth of experience in cross-platform engineering to New
Moon. Previously, the team was responsible for designing and building the
Visix Galaxy portable Windows libraries, as well as the VIBE Java IDE product.
"Our new Reston-based team strengthens New Moon's cross-platform Windows
API mapping projects immeasurably," said Randy Dieterle, senior vice president
of engineering for New Moon. "The addition of such high-caliber talent will
enable New Moon to aggressively focus on Java, CE, and other client
environments without sacrificing time-to-market for our core Windows 32-bit
products."

Series C funding fuels staffing
The opening of the Reston office follows New Moon's recent announcement of
$10 million in private and venture funding earmarked for R&D projects. The
financing, led by chip giant S3 and venture capital firm Vertex Management,
builds on more than $4 million invested in the company since its founding in
1995.
New Moon's flagship product, Liftoff(TM), instantly converts PCs running
Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows NT Workstation into thin client network
computers by partitioning and distributing Windows-based applications across
both client devices and NT servers. Unlike other thin-client solutions on the
market, Liftoff utilizes a cooperative processing approach to Windows
application execution, so that part of the Windows application runs on the NT
server, and part of it runs on the Windows 95 or NT Workstation client. This
approach enables IT managers to leverage their current investments in 32-bit
desktop PCs, even while they implement centralized application deployment and
management through the network computing architecture.
