I drove through the giant wind farm just west of Palm Springs on Wed.

VERY windy day out there. I'm always surprised to see many of them not spinning. I'd say 60% were spinning.

Looking at one, they are so huge and high off the ground the maintenance must be very difficult.

Hmm.. wonder why they don't use some kind of "pitch control" like feathering a prop on an aircraft. That would deal with any winds that are too strong by decreasing the attitude/angle at which the winds strikes the blades.
