The several hundred billion is the estimated cost to tax payers IF we let GM drive the automakers and their suppliers into bankruptcy...it's much cheaper if we provide bridge loans to GM and the Big 3 automakers and motivate them to make some tough but necessary changes...We gotta save as many of the 3 million jobs tied into the U.S. automotive industry as we can -- especially in this deep recession that our nation faces.

It would have been MUCH cheaper for Bush to negotiate with Saddam or go with "vigilant containment" of Iraq...Instead of spending over a trillion U.S. tax dollars on an elective war we might have saved most of that money...and think of all the lives we could have saved too...Saddam was clearly not an imminent threat to the United States and we didn't exercise good judgement and allow the UN Inspectors to complete their work and conclude that Iraq truly had NO weapons of mass destruction.
