What is your take on jury selection? I personally object to these professional jury consultants that try to lodge a favorable jury. I see nothing wrong with challenge for cause, but preemptive challenges should be held down, in my opinion. A colleague who was an expert at statistics got several jury summons almost every year. He complained to the body that controls that, who declared that the system was perfectly random. He told them, "No, I know how random number generators work, and they work off of a seed number. If you use the same seed you get similar results and sooner or later you are going to repeat the draw, or elements of it." The authority he complained to was clueless to what he was talking about, but he was right. I know a little about random number generators myself. I served on a jury once and it was one of the hardest things I ever did. It's hot, stuffy, you have to sit in the room with a lot of people you do not know and do not like, and if they buy lunch you tend to eat too much with no chance for exercise. On top of that you have an onerous responsibility to the people and to justice. It's no picnic.
