Hi Skeeter Bug,

Glad it works for your friend. I recently compared a number of Linux and Unix distributions (openSUSE, Debian, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Knoppix, Kanotix, Solaris, FreeBSD and PC-BSD) and again liked Ubuntu most. Currently there are two choices:
- 8.10, the latest version maintained until 2010
- 8.04 LTS, the "long term support" version maintained until 2011
I have 8.04 which was the latest when I installed it and mostly run it as a VMware guest machine for surfing.

I think it's easier on Ubuntu than on XP and Vista, and it has been easier for quite a while.
