My argument was that it should be possible to recognize your loss without appearing to tolerate discrimination.

This is exactly the kernal of thought I was focusing on. I was growing aware that several others were interpreting my comments as an effort to support discrimination when I was actually looking abstractly at cases where Constitutionally derived rights collide.

After so much posting, you seemed to be the only one who saw the collision and that it could be discussed in the abstraction. This excited me, but I never took it as your personal validation of my belief system.

However, it appears you also may think I'm trying to defend discrimination. You used the words 'your loss', thus personalizing it. To keep the conversation at the abstract level, substituting "your loss" for loss of freedoms, such as speech and religion, might be more appropriate.
