I think though, (as comprehensive studies of world financial panics throughout history have illustrated), the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT thing do do in financial/banking panics is to come in HEAVY and FAST with the cash. Nothing else really works. Else, the odds are great of the crisis morphing rapidly into a true monster. (We are in the triage stage now. The time to act prudently and with appropriate regulatory oversight was all during the preceding decade or so. The failures to act prudently then have propelled us onto the catastrophic course we find ourselves on NOW, were all the choices that are left to us are but shades of 'bad'. No GOOD OPTIONS left at this late stage.)
