They will do what is politically correct under pressure from, who else, politicians! They will end up eliminating the bonuses for the top execs but keep the majority of the bonuses paid for performance throughout the rest of the firm. I have absolutely zero problem with that, high level corporate officers shouldn't be rewarded for their performance unless the firm as a whole performs. Shareholders should demand that much.

What I have a problem with is forcing them to cut all bonus pay, especially for those people who are not in an executive position, where they manage a fund or act as market makers. These are the people who did perform and the ones who kept the losses from being even greater than they were. Managers and traders on that level who didn't perform weren't eligible for bonuses anyway.

They'll get their crowd pleasing headlines, Executive Bonuses Cut at XYZ while the bulk of bonus pay will still be paid to anyone eligible for one, anyone who isn't one of the top 8 execs.
