They will come in, read the meter, and charge you $4+.

I believe the utility companies paid for XS at one point, and that was taken out when deregulation happened. I think. Maybe not. Currently some discussion about adopting the German model of feed-in tariffs.

I think utilities pay in some states.

If it happens, first thing I'd do is get a time-of-use meter. Records when electricity is produced/ used. Pays, or costs, 3 times as much during peak hours, which is when I make the most
