Precisely. Look, I am no fan of the unions. When I was growing up, the OCAW and the pipefitters were big in Beaumont. You couldn't get hired at the refineries unless you were a member of the union, and you couldn't join the union unless someone in the union invited you. Which meant their relatives got the cush jobs with high pay and required little work. Of course, that all changed the year I graduated from high school when the negotiations between the refineries and the unions broke down over the plans for computerization of the refineries. The plan was to retrain and find jobs for those whose jobs were going to be phased out. The unions refused, they wanted the jobs kept. So, they went on strike. The refineries went ahead with their computerization plans, and even accelerated them. So, they ran the plants for almost two years with just the supervisors. Finally, the union decided to end the strike and wanted their jobs back. Which, didn't exist any more...
