My representative responded to the last campaign, voting twice against the bank bailout. The first attempt to pass it in the House failed.

I think this is worth doing. Here is a copy of my message to my Congressman, John Shimkus:

I appreciate your efforts (twice) to defeat the $850 B bailout of the banking system. Unfortunately, Congress is now moving forward with another bailout of the auto industry. When Ford and GM could be purchased in their entirety for $6.4B, Congress has already given 4 times that amount, without a single share to show for the effort, and is now talking about giving even more. The effect of this ill-considered legislation will be to prolong our problem, which is that the business of making and selling cars is not supportable on its current terms. Ford knows this, because they operate profitable plants in other countries.

Please take 3 and a half minutes to watch this video on how Ford makes cars and profits in Brazil. info.detnews.com

We can do the same thing in the US, saving our money for other pressing needs, and also saving jobs at Visteon, Arvin-Meritor, Lear and countless other US companies that supply the auto makers, including Continental Tire of Mt. Vernon. It can be done; Ford is doing it! I appreciate your previous efforts to avoid the banking bailout. Please stand again for principle and rationality to stop the auto bailout.
