The unions have wrecked these companies more than any other single factor.

Hogwash! Mgmt. made bad decisions when it came to the unions. Other companies did not capitulate to the unions like GM did. You see everywhere the lack of talent at GM.....bad designs, poor quality, lack of innovations, the wrong cars for the time, bad arrangements with the unions et al. I agree with you that the unions have gotten the upper hand but that's not their fault.
