There were a LOT of people pushing all this crap and Rubin was one of them. If you know you're gonna make $40 million a year as soon as you leave government why should you really care if things "turn out well"? We spend billions on the GAO, State Department and other government agencies, yet when it comes down to it we let a few "hot shot guys" make all the decisions. If we had listened to the GAO we would never have allowed this "credit default swap" mess ever get started. If we had listened to the researchers at the State Department, we would have never gone into Iraq, at least not without sufficient troops to do the job.
