Here's an interesting story of life in the california heartland....

Some folks I know parlayed themselves up the ladder and cashed out big time to the tune of over $25,000,000 when they sold their business 4 years ago. Plenty of Inland Empire RE holdings, all that cash into the stock market(very safe, after all RE is way too high!). Now, the market has cratered and a lifetime of profit lays bleeding on the floor(sorry Bernie T.). What to do? Ride it out they say. The market will come back. RE investments tattered, portfolios tattered...Thank God we have our walnut orchard to pull us through.

Whoops.

Harvest is over, workers have been paid and not one...NOT ONE... order for so much as a pound of walnuts(and we're talking millions of pounds of nuts). Europe, ah Europe, they could always be counted on to be the buyer of last resort...but the dollar has crushed that hope out.

It's rough out there folks.
