DOJ/Janet is nothing. MSFT will jump $20 on the day of any settlement.

If history repeats again and again, MSFT and ALL will be in a
WIN/WIN/WIN situation.

Here is what I see a 'proposed settlement work':

A $50 coupon will be issued to anyone buying any PC with IE
loaded (or included as features demanded by consumer).

Hi Vinod, Your premises are short term, mine are long term, so...

stock price consideration for me is not a primary factor when looking at the DOJ issue, at least thus far. Primarily, I am looking to see if the DOJ has any better cards than the ones they hold, and from your response, at least, you don't think they do either as you did not mention any. Your concern with the stock price indicates your short term motives.

As may have guessed already, when I buy stock for the long term, I don't care if it is at it's high or low- I buy it cause it will go up over the long term. And with all humbleness, I have done *VERY* well with this strategy.

So your arguements, with all due respect, are irrelevant to me as they don't take into account the long term.

But, still interested in your thoughts.

Jon :)

VK, One big difference between INTC & MSFT. INTC's earnings and margins are dropping, MSFT's are still growing. Intel's growth is slowing to 20%, that's why it is trading at roughly 20X earnings.
MSFT's growth is still in the 50% stratosphere. Lehman upped it's eps from 3.15 to 3.20, so real price without the upgrade should be 50x3.15 or around $157!

There is a close correlation between growth and PE. Check this in the Fortune issue of Sept 22, pp86. fortune.com.
