Although the social mixing is only one of the aspects of our relations with Russian, and not usually noted as a major concern, there are approximately 3 million Russian Americans, which seems significant to me. I wasn't comparing Russia with Mexico in this respect anyway. Russia represents a unique interest to America, while Alaska is in a unique position be impacted by that just as southern states are impacted more profoundly by whatever relations we have with Mexico.
