Yes, I'm aware that politicians play special interests off against each other (the better to keep getting reelected), but I don't see that fact as any reason to give up on trying to bring about the best for my country. It (simplified, lowered, loophole-free tax codes), same as a Balanced Budget amendment to our Constitution to reduce the ease with which our politicians endlessly run deficits and devalue the currency, are certainly UPHILL FIGHTS... but that does not make them unwinable. At some point the crisis will be of such magnitude that serious reforms are possible.
