He might turn out to be a dud, but he has no power yet, so writing him off already is just a prediction of yours, not a judgment of his actions.

The kind of change we need would be rather painful, and I have doubts, too, that anybody could pull it off smoothly. Or politically. Whether or not we get real political change remains to be seen starting in late January.

As some have pointed out, choosing for the auto industry to go through bankruptcy would be very risky. It could be the best path, yet there is a risk it could cause the industry to collapse beyond recognition and beyond a point of sustainable recovery. Yes, little companies may rise up out of the ashes. But they'd be peanuts compared to the giants we have now.

In any case, Obama or not, change is coming. He will either help us get through more easily, or not.
