(And, parenthetically, likely the *first flip-flop* of the 2012 campaign... since Mr. Romney was saying exactly the opposite just a few short months ago, when he was pandering for votes in the Michigan primary. ;-)

Of course a protectionist might say we should just tax Toyota $1000 and give it to detroit. The WTO could probably be forestalled for a few years.

Hussein-Obama may be correct that only through nationalizing Detroit's health and retirement benefits can the disparity be removed without violating WTO rules. Can American afford to subsidize the auto industry. If so for how long?
