I assume that you are merely speaking about spending money on campaigning (TV ads, appearances and such...), and not referring to the ILLEGAL practice of actually 'BUYING' votes.

Well then, if we are to *compare* the two candidates and their campaigns, Romney and Obama... it would seem fair to point-out that they EACH spent extremely large sums of money in their campaign efforts (many tens of millions).

With one notable difference: many more voters liked what they were presented with with the Obama campaign, and actually cast VOTES for said candidate, than those who cast votes for Romney.

So... one's sales effort was a success... while the others's? ...not so much.
