Scott... serous question. Do you see anybody in Michigan even questioning the sheer amt of lobbying and lawsuits GM and others have initiated against CA and other states forcing acceptance of SUVs as any kind of impediment to this bailout?

NYT says the automakers seemed blindsided by the skepticism in congress. Californians are now running congress. Did they really think that years of lawsuits towards green vehicles which much of the country wants wouldn't matter when they went there to ask for money?

GM has been suing every year to force Californians to buy SUVs and halt any green legislation. Their ENTIRE BUSINESS MODEL is suing.

Here is UAWs take on GMs issues:
"The focus has to be on the economy as a whole as opposed to a UAW contract," Gettelfinger told reporters on a conference call, noting the labor costs now make up 8 percent to 10 percent of the cost of a vehicle.

"We have made dramatic, dramatic changes and the UAW was applauded for that," he said.

Instead, Gettelfinger blamed the problems the auto industry is suffering from on things beyond its control — the housing slump, the credit crunch that has made financing a vehicle tough and the 1.2 million jobs that have been lost in the past year.

"We're here not because of what the auto industry has done," he said. "We're here because of what has happened to the economy."

I have called both WA state senators and my congressman to insist they forget their 2 month holiday and stay in DC until current economic problems are resolved one way or another. I encourage everyone to call their congresspeople and insist the same.

Sen. could be called back in Dec. to weigh auto bailout
