Several things have been muddled for rational discussion over the past decade and this is one of them. Palin is a politician in Alaska, a successful and powerful one, deserving of respect and admiration for her accomplishments. You may not see that as rising to the level of qualified for national leadership, which is debatable, but the humor and put down venue has been over done in an attempt to discount her accomplishments and qualifications.

Likewise Iraq. Whatever other feelings people have about that endeavor, we really needed to be successful in our operations and we have been. Yet it seemed from the beginning, a large segment of our own people were rooting for failure ... probably thinking naively, a disgraced administration is not consequential materially or motively to the population. The Bush admin has suffered great damage in spite of the Iraq and other successes, more from an on going onslaught of mean spirited attacks than do to real substantial failures, and the prestige of the USA people in general has been reduced as a consequence. In our material complacencies we have become our own worst enemy politically and it seems people don't see the wholistic connection of inflicting damage to the political system.
