Consider a further ironic twist. The government has privitized quite a bit since Regan:

1) Halliburton has run the Iraqi war. Maybe they are even doing a good efficient job. I wouldn't know.

2) The prisons are being privitized,

3) The highways are being leased to foreign management firms,

4) Wasn't there a squabble about a Quatar corporation running the port of Los Angeles?

So now we are going to "publicize" Detroit so we can only privitize it in another five years. The government simply isn't geared up to run automobile manufacturing despite all good intentions.
