The suppliers would not be able to stay in business just supplying Toyota, Honda, etc.

How are they going to increase production? They'd have to re-tool. They'd have to expand their facilities. Are they going to move all those Detroit workers?

The American auto industry is a major part of our infrastructure, GNP, etc. It's not a service industry that some other business can just pick up where they left off.

As distasteful as it is, they have to be bailed out. The ideal situation would be to let them go bankrupt, reorganize, renegotiate union contracts, and continue business as usual. Trouble is, Joe the car buyer isn't going to buy a car from a bankrupted company he thinks isn't going to be around to service his car after he buys it.

That's an old post. Remember the famous Dell Grub.

I had to laugh about my reference to redistribution and taxes.
