I looked all over for a job to no avail. As I was looking for a job in downtown Denver, I spied a school bus advertising "Drivers needed". Since I drove a truck part time at the airport in an earlier life, I had driving experience (and a CDL) and decided to apply for a school bus driver job. Boy was I pleasantly surprised, the children are the country's most precious resource. I was tested by my middle school students. But I passed the test. I threw a few of the hard cases off the bus about 3 miles from their drop off location -- their attitude changed the next day. The bus bonehead was tossed in addition to sent to the vice principal, he now takes another bus. I remembered my awkward early teen years so I give most of the kids the benefit of the doubt and only make them clean the bus when they misbehave. The elementary students are a joy. I have a group that really like me. In modern America, that is a serious lack of fathers and grandfathers. I noticed when I coached my son's football team 10 years ago. Matters are worst now. These boys and girls really become attached to older men. So I do my best to teach them correct behavior and the difference between right and wrong. And respect for others. Paul, I worked in finance for 10 years and information technology for 15 years and nothing compares to working with our youth. If you can not do it full time, try part time volunteer work in your local schools. The children will appreciate you. While the market is abusing you and me. Best regards, Carey Thompson
