Our country only thinks in terms of wars. War on poverty; war on drugs; etc.

I'm waiting for the inevitable: War on war.

Yeah, I saw a summary of US military engagements sometime back, and it was an eye opener for sure. I tried to find the link to post, but can't seem to remember the search string I was using when I ran across it before. Seeing it listed as everything from world wars to Kent State is almost shocking.

Also interesting is taking a look at the opposition to keeping a standing army in the early days of our nation. Personally, I've been impressed with the Swiss system ever since I first learned about as a kid in school. Every man goes through boot camp after high school, then takes his equipment home with him after he's trained to use it. IMO, it's the ultimate example of the old adage; "Let he who desires peace be prepared for war.". Nobody messes with the Swiss. It's not because they're antiwar, but because they're ready, willing and able to fight if it becomes necessary.

Of course, having a reputation for being a safe place to stash bribe money for the world's politicians probably doesn't hurt either.
