Well, I've recently moved countries and don't have the XP CD with me. I borrowed a copied CD from a local shop, and it didn't work, so I guess I'm just going to wait until the XP CD shows up which should be in our shipped stuff in the next two weeks. From what little I've read this sounds like a serious enough problem that I'm better off not giving the PC to the local computer store. I don't want to lose various applications that are on the PC if I can avoid that (I can't reinstall them).

So.....waiting for a boat to arrive, evidently.

I've finally got my XP CD, so I'm trying to get into Recovery Console to fix my PC. In attempting to reboot from the CD, the PC is stuck in step two here "Allow WindowsXP to begin the Setup process"

pcsupport.about.com

The PC is basically frozen. At the bottom of the blue screen it says Setup is loading files (PCI Bus Driver).

Any idea how long this should take?
