Green cars are only more expensive now because they are not, for the most part mass produced.

Green cars or at least EV's have been mass produced. They can be made economically enough for first cost. The problem is that after 5 years or so a ton of batteries have to be replaced and that costs as much as an engine overhaul. The range is lousy, especially after a few years. On the S10 EV's our company bought the A/C and heat was lousy, the A/C was actually a heat pump and hardly heated in the winter, and the A/C is used to cool the batteries leaving little more for the occupants. They had good acceleration but were basically used for maintenance workers at one large airport.

Guess what, they aren't clean either. The batteries must be recycled or dumped with lots of heavy metals and acid to ruin the earth. This won't work till hydrogen can be manufactured cheaply. And thats going to take fusion reactor's.
