why not both deflation and inflation?

temporary deflation to work through the bubble economy inventory and then - BAM! inflation goes crazy as the fed has been printing over a trillion a year...

Mish didn't buy off on it since it includes the non Austrian concept of debt deflation, etc.... but it sure seems to reflect reality better than most treatments I've seen of total money supply.
