Did he give a reason?

Oh yeah:

"President-Elect Obama has just appointed as next Treasury secretary the person at the vortex, the fulcrum, of every bad decision that this current administration has made. He is as culpable and as lacking in understanding in the nefarious ways of Wall Street as Ben Bernanke. Unless Obama is strong and sophisticated, Timothy Geithner will be a continuation of everything you have seen in the last year. If you liked it, if you thought the government did a great job, you just got your man.

This is worrisome. Geithner is loved by the press, but he regulated Lehman and Bear, and he put Lehman down like a dog, despite the endless denials. I mean, come on, he was in charge.

I know, I know, anything is better than the current team. Many people on Wall Street like the work he did on Long Term Capital. He is widely seen as "capable" and prudent.

But that's not the point. He is part of the current team. He is the key man behind the scenes on the team.

The market will "like" this pick, because Geithner has shrewdly convinced the media he is "one of them" and not "one of the bad guys."

I will give him a chance."
