Knighty, but we are approaching the day when the first $10k pays interest on the debt - there will be no more money for a military without running the risk the populace becomes a military and the government becomes the target. $15 trillion in debt at 10% interest... remember, the boomers are retiring now and they will need plenty of ss, medicare (iof not full blown health care), welfare and more services... we are going through several crippling events at the same time. my guess is latin america doesn't hold much of our debt - so when we stop paying europeans and chinese, they will be quite upset and america won't be in their favor anymore. iow, no more money lent to the usa.
