yes, remember the dems were said to be dead a few years back
______

But there is a difference. The dems were considered "dead" by Karl Rove and crowd, building their supposed permanent majority. But even when "dead", the democrats still had the younger voters and their base in New England and on the west coast was never in danger. Most people never considered the dems as dead or as troubled as they now do the republicans.

Now the Democrats base is still solid and they are moving into Virginia, North Carolina...even Indiana. The young voters still identify with them and the republican base is getting older and have much less to identify with, what after eight years of No fiscal responsibility. They will get to blame Bush and the republicans for at least two years, probably longer. Economists will agree.

The republicans wont't win on social issues alone, and might even need to put them on the back, back burner. It's much worse for the republicans now that it was for the dems in 2000, or even 2004.
